I don't see any clear benefits to widening the allowed spread. As long
as nobody is willing to match the price of an existing order, there
won't be any trades regardless of whether the claim is classified as
active.
The initial orders are used to initialize the prices of the automated
market maker's orders, and a large spread at that point might have some
undesirable impact on the initial market maker prices (although I don't
see how it is likely to matter much).
